Anime Love: Seiya and Usagi
Mamoru is going away to the United States to study in college, so he's leaving Usagi behind, who is almost completely heartbroken. Mamoru gives her a ring on her ring finger, and off he goes. But before he leaves, Seiya happens to walk by the couple. He notices something about Usagi and turns around to take a good look at her. Love at first sight? I don't know about that, but he was definitely interested. A few days later, all of Usagi's friends are in a little uproar over the popular new band, the Thee Lights. Usagi of course, manages to completely ignore what they are saying. She's much more interested in a movie filming in a nearby park! So she goes off with her friends, and they all get in really close to the stars. Poor Usagi can't get through, but she does happen to see the trailers of the stars. So she takes Luna and goes sneaking into the off limits area, in hopes that she can get the lead actress's autograph. Seiya tells her that the area is off limits, and she gets really defensive. This is when he first calls her Odango, and she's annoyed with him. She says that he shouldn't be allowed to call her Odango, because Mamoru is the only one allowed to call her that. He's really surprised that she doesn't recognize him, which peaks his interest in her. After all, he met someone that didn't recognize him. As time goes on, the Three Lights are increasing in popularity. And of course, Usagi still doesn't know who her friends are talking about. So she's walking down the street one day, and she runs smack into Seiya! He tells her that she's clumsy and to watch where she's going. Usagi starts yelling back at him, and he's kind of surprised. He says something to the effect of "Most girls would be happy to run into me!" Usagi is a little confused by what he says, and thinks that he's got a big ego. She goes off in a huff. In the meantime, Seiya is becoming a little more than amused by her.
As it turns out, Seiya and his brothers are in the same class as Usagi and her friends. Seiya, of course, takes the seat right behind Odango. He keeps bugging her in class, asking her to show him around and such. She doesn't want to, and she keeps telling him to be quiet. Minako comes over and tells him that they'd be happy to show him around. They do shut up after their teacher yells at them though. ^^;; So later that day, Usagi, her friends, and the Three Lights go around and explore the clubs. Seiya keeps trying to show off for Usagi, which shows that he's trying to impress her. I think this is the point where he's got a little crush on her. Unfortunately, she never responds. As time goes on, Seiya and his brothers hang out with Usagi and her friends more and more. They all become friends, and Seiya's crush on Usagi develops more and more. The Three Lights and Michiru have a joint concert together, so Usagi and her friends all get free tickets. So they all go, except Usagi, who gets on the wrong bus. She reaches the concert hall after it's over, and runs into Haruka, who says that she'll take Usagi back to the dressing rooms so she won't feel bad. Michiru is already there, and Seiya happens to wander in because he sensed that Michiru wasn't a normal person. Michiru starts flirting with him shamelessly, and asks him to help her undress. Naughty, naughty Seiya says okay, but then Haruka and Usagi come in the room. Usagi is surprised, Michiru is amused, Seiya is slightly embarrassed because Usagi is there, and Haruka is absolutely furious. She goes to "shake Seiya's hand" when she introduces herself, but actually tries to punch him in the stomach. He simply catches her hand and gives her an amused little look. He says he should be going, and leaves an enraged Haruka behind, telling Usagi he'll wait for her outside. Usagi tells Haruka not to hate Seiya or anything, because he's really a nice guy. She then follows Seiya and tells him not to pick on Haruka. She says something to the effect that she doesn't like it when her friends fight, which greatly interests Seiya. He asks her if she thinks of him as her close friend, and she nervously says yes. This makes him really happy, and he asks her if she was jealous of what he was doing. Usagi responds indignantly, as expected.
Usagi is so dense about Seiya's feelings for her, that she doesn't even realize them until he flat out asks her for a date. The situation? The Three lights get a day off, and Yaten and Taiki have thwarted Minako and the other's attempts to get them to do something with them. They express that their days off are very important to them, so they don't want to waste them. Seiya, on the other hand, is leaning against a tree, waiting for Usagi to come along. He asks her to spend the day with him the next day, and to meet him in the park. She agrees without really thinking about it. So the next day, there she is, waiting in the park. Haruka and Michiru come along and mention that only couples and children come to that park, and say that it looks like she's waiting for a date to show up. They leave her with that thought, which really freaks her out. She can't believe that Seiya has asked her out on a date. So she acts somewhat nervous throughout it. He takes her to an amusement park, and they get really close to each other off and on, which Usagi nervously halts each time. Then he takes her to a club to go dancing, where they encounter a phage. Seiya first ponders if Usagi is Sailor Moon, but he dismisses the thought. He takes her up in a Ferris wheel, and they have a really cute conversation. Usagi: "Hey, isn't this kind of bad? I mean, everyone can see us up here. Can't you see the next headline? They'll think I'm your new girlfriend!" Seiya: "They can say that. I don't mind." This makes Usagi a little uneasy, of course, and she finally realizes that Seiya has fallen in love with her.
He thinks for a moment, and says that he's got a really big secret too. He's fingering his little transformation headset as he says this. He goes on to say "Let's not have any secrets between us! Come on, promise!" He really wants to tell her that he's actually Sailor Star Fighter. Later, Usagi is upset because she's going to be home all by herself that night. She's kind of scared, because there are rumors of a violent criminal loose in the area. So Seiya happens to overhear this, and offers to protect her. Usagi is thrilled about this and says he can come over. Luna warns Usagi about this, saying that Seiya may not mind his manners, which makes Usagi a little nervous. But when Seiya comes over, she invites him to have tea and cake in her room with Chibi-Chibi. She quietly apologizes to Mamoru for letting another guy into her room, and leaves to go get something. Seiya looks at the picture of Usagi with Mamoru and Chibi-Usa, and flips it down, saying "You jerk. Don't make her so sad." When Usagi comes back, Seiya tries to talk to her seriously. He says he wants her to listen to him. Thinking that he's going to confess his love to her, Usagi tries to change the subject, and not give Seiya a chance to talk. He gets kind of upset, because he's actually trying to tell her that he's really Fighter. Chibi-Chibi takes this chance to throw cake in Seiya's face. So off he goes to take a shower. At this point, all of Usagi's friends show up, saying that they didn't want her to be spending the night with some guy. Usagi tells them they've all gotten the wrong impression, when all of a sudden Seiya wanders by in the hallway wearing only a towel. Chibi-Chibi comes along and tries to pull it off, right in front of all the girls. Seiya freaks out and runs away, leaving an exasperated Usagi. Then of course, Taiki and Yaten show up to add to the people in Usagi's house. All of them start to play cards when a TV group comes over. They're filming some show about watching people eat dinner or something strange like that. Afraid at what the headlines would say about the Three Lights being at a girl's house at night, everyone decides to hide. Usagi leaves Minako to deal with the TV people, and everyone else scatters. Seiya, Usagi, and Chibi-Chibi end up hiding under a cabinet, which is really closed in. They both turn red when they realize how close they are to each other, and they keep bumping their heads against the cabinet. Seiya again tries to tell Usagi that he's Fighter, but she freaks out. At about that time, they hear screaming coming from Usagi's kitchen, so she leaves to transform. (this episode is really funny. Haruka and Michiru show up, as well as Lead Crow and Aluminum Siren. Everyone winds up in Usagi's kitchen and makes a big mess of things. It's really funny!!) Wow, so this is taking a lot of text to get through, isn't it? But I'm not done yet, so bear with me!!
Seiya: "Come on Odango!! Don't you want to be my girlfriend anymore??" Usagi: "Uh... What?" Hee hee... it's cute. So anyway, they play the baseball game, and Seiya is an excellent pitcher. Usagi isn't so great, but she plays her absolute hardest, and they win the game. There's a really cute scene at the end of the episode with Seiya hugging Usagi and spinning her in the air. ^__^ Another of my favorite scenes between Seiya and Usagi is a somewhat sad one. Usagi finally tells Seiya that she hasn't heard any word at all from Mamoru. She looks so sad, and it makes him upset. So what does Mr. Kou do? He leans forward and gives her a kiss on the cheek. Then things go downhill. As time goes on, Seiya and his brothers find out the identities of all the senshi, and vice versa. This is a major turning point in Seiya and Usagi's relationship. Seiya's brothers tell him that he shouldn't really be hanging out with them, since they can't be sure they can be trusted. Usagi's friends, however, are just disturbed by the whole thing and still try to be friends with them. But the Three Lights stop coming to school, and Haruka and Michiru stick their faces into the scene. Those two say that the Three Lights are outsiders, so they should die. (Well, maybe not that harsh. They say that they can't be trusted, and the ORDER the inner senshi to stay away from them. Because everyone knows that Neptune and Uranus are GODS, right?) Anyway, Seiya and Usagi still hang out a little bitty bit. Until, of course, Sailor Moon gets into a tough fight. Tin Cat sneaks up from behind her with a laser gun thing, and tries to shoot Moon in the back. Seiya comes out of nowhere, and dives in front of the blow, protecting Sailor Moon. She's devastated by this, and then everyone shows up. Healer and Maker are enraged that Seiya got hurt, and they tell Sailor Moon not to touch him. They say that it's her fault he's hurt, and that she's corrupting him, just to lead him to pain. They're pretty nasty about it, but it's understandable since after all, they love Seiya very much, and he was severely injured. So they take Seiya away, and Usagi is really worried about his health. Now comes the point where Seiya and Usagi encounter a Romeo ~ Juliet type romance. Yaten and Taiki refuse to allow her to have any contact with Seiya, and Haruka and Michiru come down really hard on her for wanting to still be their friends. Usagi really believes that the Starlights are NOT their enemies, but of course, Haruka and Michiru decide that what Usagi says is irrelevant. They believe that they KNOW everything about what's best, and they make her utterly miserable to feed their own egos. So! Seiya finally manages to reach Usagi, and tells her to come to their concert, saying that he'll explain everything to her. She goes, but it's full and she can't get in. Determined not to let Seiya down, she ends up sitting up in a car of the Ferris Wheel, and watches the stage from there. Seiya spots her, and transmits a message to her. He tells her about his past, and about what Galaxia did to him. He says that if she's not careful, Galaxia will destroy her planet just like she destroyed his. Then he passes out on the stage, because he's still actually kind of wounded.
Yet she doesn't want to show it, of course. So, at the very end of the episode, there winds up being a phage up on the roof, and Eternal Sailor Moon is fighting alone. Her friends haven't showed up yet. The phage gets her in a bad situation, and all of a sudden, a rose comes flying down to save her. Sailor Moon, piling hope against hope, turns around thinking that Tuxedo Kamen has come back to save her. It's actually Seiya, who had thrown the rose he was going to give to her. The phage gets defeated, and Sailor Moon turns back into Usagi. She falls to the ground in the rain, and her heart simply breaks. She's crying her heart out, saying that she thought it was Mamoru, she thought it was Mamoru. All the depression she had held inside from his disappearance came flooding out at that instant, and she broke down completely. This, in turn, breaks Seiya's heart. He runs to her, as her friends arrive and can only watch quietly. Seiya kneels down and puts his hands on her shoulders, giving her a weak smile. He says "Can't it be me? Aren't I enough? Aren't I enough?" Usagi only cries harder and the scene fades out into the rain, ending the episode. This is one of the saddest scenes... ever. Usagi finally officially rejects Seiya, and it's extremely painful for both of them.
She misinterprets what he said, and says "Hey, yeah! We'll always be friends, right?". This kinda hurts him, which is why he looks so sad up there in that picture! *siiiigh* So sad. Anyway, I think that Seiya and Usagi together is the best pairing. It's sad that it never worked out... |
