Love arguments:

Pro Usagi + Mamoru arguments: (Why Seiya and Usagi doesn't work.)

Seiya knew about Mamoru, but pursued Usagi anyway.

True. But it's not quite the way it sounds. When he first befriended her, and first began to develop feelings for her, he did NOT know she had a boyfriend. When he asked, she said she had one overseas, and he said he still had a chance then. Think about it. So she had a boyfriend. But... her boyfriend wasn't around, was he?  And as time went on and his feelings for Usagi deepened, he realized that Mamoru's absence was really tearing at her heart.  Because Seiya loved her so much at that point, he was furious at Mamoru for leaving her behind. You see? He would have been happier if Mamoru came back to Usagi, if only she would be happy again. He even turned down a picture of Mamoru in her room in one episode, saying "Quit making her so sad!" in disgust. He couldn't believe that the guy who had won Usagi's affections would abandon her. Although he had fun with Usagi, and said she was his girlfriend, it was blatantly obvious he knew his love was unrequited. At the end, he told Mamoru to take care of her, and left with Kakyuu and the others. He never actually came between the "eternal bond" of Usagi and Mamoru. She never even understood he was in love with her, although she suspected it.

Mamoru and Usagi were destined to be together, no matter what.

Hm. Well, back in the days of the Moon Kingdom, Endymion and Serenity were forbidden to be together.  But they still fell in love somehow, and they overcame  a LOT to be together. This is absolutely true. But as for the "destiny" part... People's hearts change. Think about it. It's easy for people to fall in love. Just because you went through a lot, something can cause you to waiver. It doesn't matter HOW long a couple has been together, things can happen to cause their feelings to change. The destiny argument is the most frequently used, and I do see the sense in it. However, it's still a little thin. If you're going to go so far as to insist these cartoon characters should be together no matter what, and come up with realistic reasons, umm... you need to put them in a realistic light. People's hearts can change. It's a fact.

Seiya is really a woman.

Manga version, Seiya most definitely is. But she's not really in love with Usagi in the manga, and is really her close friend. That's my interpretation, and I'm going to leave it at that. Anime? That's a little more complicated. Yes, Fighter is a woman. She started off that way, and became Seiya on Earth. This argument doesn't make sense as a reason Seiya and Usagi can't be together. If you want to say that Seiya is a woman in the anime, remember that lesbian pairings are not unheard-of in Sailor Moon.  That aside, I tend not to think of Seiya as a woman in the anime. Seiya is different from Fighter, although they are the same. He develops into his own, independent character.

Seiya doesn't truly love Usagi, and Mamoru does.

Yes, Mamoru truly loves Usagi. No argument there. But... Seiya DOES really love Usagi. He loves her intensely, enough to tell Mamoru to take care of her. Enough to wish for anything to make her happy. Seiya loves Usagi, end of story. Erm.. in the anime, that is. In the manga... Well, let me get this straight. I'm totally pro Usagi+Mamoru in the manga, so that's why most of this is centered in the anime version.

Mamoru is much sweeter to Usagi in the manga, as opposed to the anime.

That he is, that he is. Which is why I completely support them as a couple in the manga. It's the anime I'm opposed to, it's the anime that starred Seiya and Usagi, and it's the anime that is most argued about.

Mamoru looks better than Seiya.

This and other such reasons are absurd. Believe me, there are a lot of them. Saying things like this just completely destroys the validity of what you're trying to prove.

Seiya only loves Usagi because she reminds him of Kakyuu.

Possible. But I don't think so. While he loves Kakyuu, I'm not sure he's IN love with Kakyuu. Think about it... Rei loves Usagi, but she's not IN love with Usagi. I think Seiya has the same thing for HIS princess. So when he falls in love with Usagi.. .yes, he does think she is like Kakyuu. To me, this looks like he's almost wishing she WAS Kakyuu, so they could have found her, she would be safe, and well... he was in love with Usagi.

Seiya knows he's in an unrequited love.

That he does. All the more reason I support the relationship. It's a beautiful story, is it not? I know that Usagi and Seiya doesn't work out. That doesn't mean I can't support the wish that it had.

Seiya isn't loyal. He would rather pursue Usagi instead of Kakyuu.

This is one of the most valid points out there. But Seiya IS loyal. He NEVER stops pursuing Kakyuu, and gets violently angry if he thinks either of his brothers aren't trying their best to find her. But could he be loyal to Usagi if he loved Kakyuu? There's an interesting point. On the one hand, I would say no. There's a scene in the manga where Minako and Rei say they don't need men, because they only devote themselves to their princess. The same should be true of Seiya. But... on the other hand, I would say yes. Seiya goes to great pains to be with Usagi, to protect her, and to try to make her understand his situation. Especially near the end of the series. It develops into almost a Romeo+Juliet kind of scenario.

Usagi chose Mamoru in the end, not Seiya.

Yes she did. Her heart always belonged to Mamoru, and although it appeared to waver, she never even considered Seiya over Mamoru for an instant. Seiya knew that. And in the end, Mamoru saw right away that Seiya was in love with Usagi, and Seiya knew that. He told Mamoru to take care of his beloved Odango. Usagi... just didn't get it. Once again, that's part of the unfair beauty of Seiya's unrequited love for Usagi.

Pro Seiya + Usagi arguments: (Why Usagi and Mamoru doesn't work)

Seiya treats Usagi better than Mamoru does.

Manga, no. Mamoru is an absolute sweetheart in the manga, and he gets jealous and everything. Really, I loved Naoko's portrayal of Usagi and Mamoru's relationship. Anime... YES! Seiya DOES treat Usagi better than Mamoru! Granted, Mamoru said he loved Usagi, and he did his share of proving it.  Yes, he has his spiffy moments. But more often than not, he's cold to her, aloof. He acts embarrassed when she shows affection to him in public. Seiya never does that kind of thing. He's always open, always warm, and is never embarrassed to show his affection towards Usagi.

Mamoru is in love with Serenity, not Usagi.

I wouldn't have even thought of this, but I HAVE seen it on the net. Ummm... Serenity IS Usagi. Sorry, but this one is true. But I just don't see why a Seiya+Usagi supporter would use this as their defense. Mamoru loves Usagi for who she is, and so does Seiya.

Seiya dresses better than Mamoru.

This and other such reasons are absurd. Believe me, there are a lot of them. Saying things like this just completely destroys the validity of what you're trying to prove. (Just echoing what I said earlier, I know, but these kinds of reasons come up a LOT.)

Seiya and Usagi COULD have been...

Precisely why I became such a huge Seiya+Usagi fan. That scene on the rooftop of Usagi's school... "aren't I enough?".  That just melted my heart for poor Seiya. If Mamoru never existed, Seiya and Usagi most definitely could have worked out.

Their personalities match better.

Yes they do. The two of them are both intense, vibrant, and outgoing people. They try to get their feelings out in the open, and they have a lot of fun together. This is why Usagi regarded Seiya as one of her dearest friends. She treasured the time she had with Seiya, and did anything she could to be with him when they were being driven apart. As for Mamoru... well, he's much more withdrawn than Usagi. It's hard to get anything out of him, and he doesn't like to share his thoughts very much. I'm not saying having matching personalities makes Seiya and Usagi a better match, I'm just saying that they are similar.

Mamoru is too old for her.

Ah yes. How much older IS he than her? At the beginning, the age difference really is kind of disturbing. He's in college, and she's in middle school. Really, that's kind of sick.It bothered me when I first found out about that.  And yes, Seiya is the same age as her. I know that people get together with huge age differences, but not when they're that young! When she's in high school, it's not so bad, but still!

Mamoru was DEAD during most of Stars.

Yeah... so? I've seen this argument a lot, and it puzzles me. No one KNEW he was dead in the anime version. This makes no sense.

Usagi loves Seiya too.

Why yes, Usagi DOES love Seiya. .... As a friend. As a very dear friend. And if there was no Mamoru... she would quite possibly fall in love with him. But I don't like seeing sites that say Usagi never loved Seiya. She did. Just not in the same way he loved her.

Mamoru broke up with Usagi.

Yes he did. In the anime only. Sailor Moon R DID happen, and Mamoru DID break up with Usagi. People like to dismiss that fact because it never happened in the manga, but it DID happen in the anime! Usagi was absolutely tortured, and Mamoru KNEW she was. His actions were irrational, and downright cruel. I don't know why the anime writers destroyed his character like that, but they DID. The break up thing is what got me to dislike Mamoru in the anime version, and is all the more reason I support Seiya+Usagi.

Mamoru isn't loyal to Usagi.

He is loyal to her, actually. He never cheated on her or had any intentions of doing so. But along those lines... Remember Super S? Fisheye came onto him... STRONGLY. Yes, he resisted, but barely. He did NOT push Fisheye away. Now tell me, how is it he can push Usagi away, but not some random "woman" (as far as he knew...) trying to kiss him? Also, there are two instances that come to mind where he is suspected of cheating. During Sailor Moon R, Usagi thought he was dating Motoki's little sister while they had broken up. If he was so perfect, why would she even suspect that? Yes, she's jealous, but not like that. Second... in the Super S, Mamoru gave his apartment key to a friend of his. It was for perfectly innocent reasons, but Ami saw all of this. She happens to be very close to Mamoru, yet she suspected him of cheating on Usagi. What is it about him that makes people not trust him? It's something to think about, at least.
